An online platform for LGBTQIA community, family members, and allies, this group was founded in June 2016 and is a safe space of pride, support and growth. They are also involved in organizing cultural events surrounding issues of gender and sexuality in various parts of the city and is the first and only one of it’s kind. Their biggest aim is to open up a conversation around queer intersectional issues and ensure that no queer identifying individual should ever feel like they are alone. Their mission is to raise awareness about queer issues through discussions, increase representation through cultural events, build an index of safe and reliable legal, medical and psychological aid and finally, destroy the stigma around LGBTQ issues.
Since the group is a young and relatively new organization, their biggest success has been organizing their very first event. “We planned a poetry reading event where individuals could perform if they themselves identified as queer or if they were reading the work of a queer poet. Most cultural events here do not draw big audiences but the number of people that attended this event was unprecedented,” they say. The event was attended by over 100 people and there were quite a few performers who read poetry about their life, love and struggles with their gender/sexuality. There were also parent allies that decided to read queer poetry from India in support of LGBTQ community. The event was covered well by the media in major newspapers of the city and definitely instilled hope in the group to continue its mission.
