Center for Promotion of Women’s Rights – Her Rights

Grantee / Belarus

Founded in February 2016, the Center for Promotion of Women’s Rights – Her Rights is a Belarusian non-profit organization whose mission is to help build a better and more just world for both women and men. One of the most important organizational goals is to help women protect and promote their rights and interests in order to build a more democratic society based on equal opportunities. One of the main activities of the organization is to provide free and confidential legal help for women who face gender violence and discrimination. Special attention is paid to the problem of domestic violence: Seventy percent of our participants’ appeals are directly connected to the problem of domestic violence. Women from all the regions of Belarus can address the legal helpline and get legal information and assistance. The group values non-discrimination, gender equality; respect for human rights, and the people they work together with and for.

Gaining the trust of women in their community is what the group acknowledges as their biggest achievement. “We see it by the feedback we get from women: they not only thank us all the time, but tell other women who might need help about us,” they say. Without any advertisement or much publicity, the group receives calls from at least 20 women every month whom they try to help as much as they can. They treat them with respect, dignity and trust, building not only good relations but a larger and safer community.
