Copper Rose Zambia

Grantee / Zambia

Copper Rose Zambia is an initiative that was started in 2015 by two young people who believe that poverty is not an excuse not to make a difference. The group’s mission is to make a difference in the lives of women and girls by educating them about their sexual and reproductive health rights and responsibilities so that they may exhibit autonomy in order to reach their full potential and be effective leaders and agents of change in their communities. Copper Rose envisions a world in which every woman, girl and young person is happy, healthy and living to their full potential.

The Candid Pride Campaign, which was started in August 2015 to break the silence on menstruation, sexual and reproductive health among adolescents in Zambian communities is something that the group considers as the highlights of their success as a young feminist group. As at January 2017, this Campaign has reached out to over 7000+ adolescents with donations of over 3500 sanitary napkins and hygiene kits in 4 districts of Zambia. The group is also extremely proud of taking steps towards advocating for menstrual hygiene consideration at national level, sanitary napkins have now been included into the 2017 national budget for school going girls in Zambia.
