Corporación Sihyta

Grantee / Colombia

This is a group of young people who have been working for more than 6 years in environmental themes supported by cultural, artistic and traditional interventions. Their aim is to create proposals that give responses to the different socio-environmental conflicts present in our territory. Their main objective is the strengthening of the community in its organizational processes in order to promote spaces for discussion of environmental problems. In 2017, the group decided to organize and form Corporación Sihyta (Sihyta Corporation), whose objective is to provide alternatives and environmental solutions aimed at the development of social strengthening activities, highlighting the role played by women in society. “Being an organization composed mainly of women we give example of empowerment and female participation,” they say.

In 2017, the group developed the project #AMIGOSPORELFUCHA with the support of Kennedy Local Mayor’s Office, in which they implemented a method of experiential education. Through a mobile nursery, they visited different schools in the city of Bogotá spreading the importance of native trees in the recovery of the Fucha river water basin and encouraging young people to be part of the processes of citizen participation and form strong leaderships that allow the recovery of strategic ecosystems.
