Fe-Male
Fe-Male was founded in 2012 and officially registered as an NGO in 2013. The group envisions a just world in which women and girls live with dignity free of patriarchy. Fe-Male is a civil feminist collective working with women and girls to eliminate injustice through building young feminist movement, empowering agents of change, and campaigning together against discriminatory norms and policies. In the next five years, the group’s strategic objectives are:
- Strengthen and expand the organization’s financial and human resources through developing our capacities on raising funds, PME programs and mobilizing volunteers.
- Contribute to building a young feminist movement in the region through spreading and deepening feminist knowledge and activism.
- Challenge women’s objectification and stereotyping in Media and ads through campaigning and advocacy.
- Develop the capacities of women, girls and activists on creative and digital activism to ensure their cyber security and fight violent extremism.
Attracting a bigger number of young girls and building their capacities to become future feminist leaders is something that Fe-Male considers as one of their biggest achievements. Recently, through its work on challenging women’s image and objectification in media and ads, Fe-Male was able to achieve the stoppage of 3 ads within 3 years. “We were able recently, to stop a violent and objectifying ad produced by the most prominent mall and department store in Lebanon, ABC mall, through leading an advocacy online campaign that went viral online, and obliged the ads agency and the mall’s marketing department to contact us and respond positively to our campaign by stopping the advert,” they say. They have also been able to create the first feminist radio program in Lebanon and have been able to create and maintain it as a feminist platform online (facebook advocacy page and news website) with a very limited resources and the volunteering efforts of the group’s members.
