FKM- BKA’s goals are to fight for the rights of women with disability through participation and partnerships in Aceh. The organization’s vision is to advocate for women with disabilities in Aceh to obtain medical, psychological and functional services, medical and social rehabilitation, education, training and skills, consultation, possible work placement so they are able to develop maximum capacity and skills to accelerate the reintegration process and social integration in society. Some of their missions include:

  • Fighting the social development of women with disabilities to raise their dignity
  • Improving the quality of Human Resources (HR) of women with disabilities
  • Fight for equal opportunity and full participation
  • Improve the partnership between men, women and youth with disabilities.

The main activity of the organization is to provide assistance, support, consultation and form programs and assistance related to the needs of disabled persons in accordance with the CRPD articles.

In January 2018, the group worked on an inclusive climate change mitigation by planting 500 mangroves in Alue Naga. Young women with disability and young women from different universities were invited to take part in caring for and saving mother earth by practical planting of mangrove trees. The main purpose of this program was to increase young women’s awareness in protecting our environment as well as build a strong relation between non disability and disability people, both of whom should take the biggest role in protecting our earth,” they said. Not only did the initiative receive great appreciation from the Ministry of Forestry of Indonesia, thee group was invited again to plant 1000 mangroves which was held together in Indonesia. The news was covered by several media locals. Read more here, here and here.
