Girls in Blue Capes was founded in October 2016 with the aim to provide knowledge and information to inspire Vietnamese parents and non-parents to empower young girls by nurturing their confidence in life and defying common gender-based myths. In 2017, the group received a small grant of USD 2200 from an NGO to run a family-structure-diversity project and a “road trip” across the country. With a five member team and very limited financial resources, they managed to approach and deliver diversity promoting workshops to more than 1000 elementary and middle school students in 7 cities within 30 days, wrote a picture book and printed 1000 copies, met dozen of good friends who opened their homes and offered them food along the trip. The group has also opened three exhibitions in two big cities of the country – Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh.
