Island PRIDE
Island PRIDE (Promoting Resilience through Involvement, Development & Education) was established in 2017 to empower Micronesian communities to respond to the adverse impacts of climate change by combining indigenous knowledge and modern adaptation strategies. The group aims to strengthen the resilience inherent to their cultural identity in Micronesia through a threefold approach: Involvement, Development and Education.
“We believe in turning our pride and love for our beautiful islands into meaningful action,” they say and believe that getting recognized and receiving grant from FRIDA was a huge success point. “We’re a very new organization so this support means everything to us to help us launch and get off the ground. The fact that other people looked at Island PRIDE’s vision and wanted to help us make that dream come true is our biggest and most meaningful achievement so far,” the group says. They belive they now have the confidence and momentum to know that together, they can keep going to make a difference.
