TransAction
TransAction was founded in 2015, envisioning a society in which all people are safe in their homes, schools and communities; are treated with respect and dignity; and have equal opportunities to develop and activate their leadership abilities regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity and live a life free of stigma and discrimination. The mission of TransAction to make Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA a safe and tolerant place for the trans and gender non-conforming individual through education and social advocacy for the empowerment of all trans and gender non-conforming people in every aspect of society and actively oppose discriminatory acts. Their mission is to promote awareness, visibility, and cultural and legal acceptance of people with alternative sexual orientations and gender identities.
The biggest achievement of TransAction so far has been to mobilize the transgender community across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to form a provincial Alliance of Transgender and intersex community representing 45000 to 50,000 transgender and intersex community. With the advocacy efforts of TransAction the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Govt has allocated 200 Million rupees first time in the history for the welfare and protection of transgender community in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Because of two years struggle the KP Govt has notified a high powered Govt committee (including member of TransAction) for the empowerment of transgender committee it is the first committee of its kind in Pakistan. With the group’s efforts and writ petitions in high courts transgender community in Pakistan has, for the first time, been counted as part of the national census. “With our mobilization and involvement, the KP Govt is formulating the provincial transgender protection policy which will be first of its kind in Pakistan,” they say.
