Women’s Gaze

Grantee / Georgia

Women’s Gaze was founded as an activist group in 2014. It was a non-formal leftist activist group and in 2016, the women’s collective separated from the group (based on ideological disagreement about if feminism was important political line in the group) and founded a women’s only collective of its own. The group’s vision is to raise visibility and importance of women’s healthcare, educational, working condition and housing problems, “because we think this are the most important component of feminist struggle in Georgia and in our context.” According to the members of this group, “young feminists like us should be empowering other young girls and helping them to become more politically conscious.”

Women’s Gaze’s mission is to become a more strong organization that helps young women in many ways. They are now translating and accumulating feminist academic works in Georgian. They plan to empower girls by offering legal and healthcare services as they believe that it will help feminist movement to grow and improve activism. “It will also be a prerequisite for writing women oriented policy documents,” they say.
