Melinda is a brown intersectional feminist who is currently advocating for reforms to uphold gender equal citizenship rights in Malaysia through her role with the Malaysian Campaign for Equal Citizenship, led by the Foreign Spouses Support Group (FSSG). At FSSG, Melinda also works on the advocacy for Malaysians in transnational marriages, with a focus on the disproportionate impact of biased citizenship laws, policies, and practices on women. Melinda’s
feminist activism stems from her days as a student activist while she was the Wom*n’s Officer in university, where she primarily worked on promoting inclusiveness and consent culture. She is a graduate of Psychological Science from Monash University, Malaysia. Melinda is also deeply interested in cultural identity due to her personal experiences as a third culture kid. She speaks English, Bahasa Malaysia, Tamil.
