2023: A Constant Becoming: A Year of Transformation & Growth
For FRIDA 2023 was a year of transition and adjustment both internally and externally. This year’s annual report is a journey through big shifts, deep listening, hard truths, hard work and new challenges. From our holistic work beyond traditional grantmaking to big organizational transitions, every aspect of the organization has had to dig deep, reflect and change. As we continue on our journey, we invite you to journey with us into the cocoon and gather in the midst of active, constant, change.
2022: A Deep Unearthing: Finding our way back to the core
Over the last couple of years, FRIDA has turned to the metaphors of earth and water to help us bring focus to recollect, remember, and weave together the stories that have shaped FRIDA’s work during this time. Earth and water, as we have seen and experienced, offer us hard lessons as well as soft places to land, rest, and heal. Of the many gifts borne of the Earth, perhaps the sharpest, and most generative, is that of fire. And so it is this element through which we choose to speak about 2022 in the FRIDAverse. “I believe in the sweat of love and in the fire of truth” – Assata Shakur
2021: ‘Traversing Diverse Bodies of water together; Connected by Turbulent and Calm Currents’
In 2021, even as the pandemic turned more brutal across majority nations, young feminist activists embodied adaptability and continued to persevere. Their activism stood the test of time and found creative ways to connect, interact and solidify relationships despite physical barriers to connection. Reflecting on young feminists’ ability to thrive in the extremest of conditions, adapting as they move, made us look to the metaphor of water and propelled us to explore this theme of water across FRIDA’s 2021 Annual Report; a theme which is a deliberate contrast to and progression from the 2020 Annual Report theme of the desert and the mirage.
2020: Caravaning Towards a Feminist Oasis
To describe the year 2020 as ‘challenging’ would be an understatement. Feminist communities across the world bore the brunt of a tumultuous year, which almost felt like an expansive desert with little flora, fauna and water in sight. Yet, deserts have their own unique ecosystem, supporting a parallel life, a different habitat and a varied way of living. In a similar fashion, we persevered and the fact that we are here now, almost 2 years since the pandemic was first recognized, is nothing short of a miracle. To use desert terminology, an oasis.
2019: Journey into the FRIDAverse of Change
Change isn’t easy. It can be challenging, tumultuous and messy. But if we embrace the inevitability of change, it can bring about opportunities to grow, share and learn collectively. With lots of hope, joy and a labour of love, our 2019 Annual Report takes you on a “Journey into the FRIDAverse of Change”.
2018: Measuring the sky
For FRIDA, sky is the only limit. In 2018, we took on a long and continuous journey making so many discoveries along the path and adapting to changing circumstances. With big ambitions and dreams of a beautiful, ripe and holistic feminist future, FRIDA is measuring the sky as it takes the next steps ahead.
2017: Wild Within
What does it really mean to be a young feminist activist in today's world of gender boundaries, shrinking civic spaces, and stark inequalities of resources? To survive in this world - young feminist organizing needs to be unapologetic, unwavering, and unafraid. It needs to adapt to changing contexts, branch out to other movements and nurture new ideas that are as piercing as the sun and as organic as the flower.
2016: Powerful Patterns
What happens when young feminist organizing is supported and given the right space and environment to grow? It creates a powerful pattern of changing oppressive structures and rewriting histories. We attempted to capture it all in a visually appealing microsite of rich information, colorful illustrations and truckload of inspiration.

Each snippet of 2015 is captured in this gorgeous report. #BloomingAhead
