Originally from Australia, Ruby is committed to advocating for community and movement driven change, and working with young feminist activists to ensure they have resources and platforms to make decisions and hold power to account. Prior to joining FRIDA, she worked with UN Women in Cambodia in the area of governance, women’s human rights and young women’s leadership. She has also previously worked with the Fred Hollows Foundation, Amnesty International and with indigenous communities in Australia and Mexico. Her experience spans from implementing CEDAW with local communities, to mainstreaming gender into eye health projects, to supporting radical youth led innovation and participatory grantmaking in the philanthropic space. Ruby holds a Masters in Participatory Development and Applied Anthropology in Gender from Australian National University and a Bachelor in International Studies from the University of New South Wales, Australia. In her spare time, Ruby enjoys writing “just about anything – poetry, journals, reflecting on my day”, getting lost in new places, picking flowers at the flower market for her loved ones, swimming in the ocean, reading about spells, magic and witchcraft, cooking delicious creations, eating dumplings and sashimi and talking about food, in general. Ruby is fluent in English and Spanish and oscillates between Oaxaca, Mexico and Sydney. She tweets as @RubyAmelia.
